When you are travelling, you should have a quick think about where your food has come from. When/if it is locally produced, your food is likely to be tastier, better for the local economy and fresher.


Buy Local Food : Take a child shopping with you, pick up one of the offending products and say quite loudly "Well we’re not buying that, think of the energy it’s used up just getting here!"

2 c Whole-wheat pastry flour

1/3 c Carob powder

2 ts Baking powder

1/3 c Honey

1/2 c Unsweetened applesauce

1 c Water

1 ts Vanilla; 1/2 tsp if Watkins

1/4 c Chopped nuts (optional)

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, carob powder and baking powder. In a separate bowl, thoroughly mix remaining ingredients, except nuts. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well. Stir in nuts if desired. Pour batter into a nonstick or lightly oiled 8-inch square baking dish. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Makes 16 brownies. Per brownie: 84 cal; 2g prot; 0.3g fat; 21g carb; 0 chol; 41mg sod.
