Cooking advice

Oven Tips : Cook with the oven door closed. A partially open door wastes energy, costs you money, and warms you instead of the food.

Buy Local Food : Begin by taking baby steps, such as committing to spend £10 pounds a week on locally grown foods.

Buy Local Food : See if you can find out where your food has gone before it gets to your plate. You may be suprised by the results. Often it will make financial sense for companies to transport food enourmous distances by planes, boats and lorries. This dosn't take the environmental cost into account (which of course is likely to lead to greatly increased economic costs in the long term).

Beat the cream over ice until it leaves light traces on the surface. Beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks. While beating, sprinkle in the sugar by spoonfuls and continue beating until stiff shining peaks are formed. Scrape the chocolate mixture down the side of the egg-white bowl, and delicately fold in the whipped cream. Turn the mousse into attractive serving bowls. Cover and chill several hours. You may wish to decorate the mousse with swirls of whipped cream, or to pass whipped cream separately. Julia Child - The way to cook. Published by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. Copyright 1989 by Julia Child.
