General kitchen advice

Oven Tips : Use glass or ceramic pans in ovens. You can turn down the temperature about 25° and foods will cook just as quickly.

Buy Local Food : See if you can find out where your food has gone before it gets to your plate. You may be suprised by the results. Often it will make financial sense for companies to transport food enourmous distances by planes, boats and lorries. This dosn't take the environmental cost into account (which of course is likely to lead to greatly increased economic costs in the long term).

Weight loss info

The Atkins’ Diet
First invented by doctor atkins in the 1960s, the popular atkins diet achieved most of its fame during the last few years. Although not accepted by all scientists, it supposedly allows weight loss whilst allowing you to eat many of the foods you love, such as fatty meat and hard cheeses.
With the atkins diet you are encouraged to eat meat and fat, it is carbohydrates that need to be avoided. It is referred to as a low carb/high protein, diet.
With this diet, the foods you should avoid are processed and refined sugar, milk, white bread, starchy vegetables, white rice and white flour, including cereals and pasta made from white flour.
With the atkins diet the foods you are encouraged to eat are nutrient-rich unprocessed foods such as meat, fish & poultry. You also can eat shellfish, regular full fat cheese, butter and olive oil.

The Atkins’ Diet Theory
The logic of the famous atkins diet is that even though our bodies use both fats and carbohydrates to transform into carbs, it is the carbs which are burned primarily. If we eat fewer carbohydrates, our bodies will deplete the fat we have stored and we will get rid of some fat. Although inviting, this theory is controversial, not all nutritionalists agree and some believe it is often unsafe.
