General cooking tips

Kitchen Tip : On electric stovetops, use flat-bottomed pans that make full contact with the element. A warped or rounded pan may be a conversation piece, but will waste most of the heat.

A local veg box shared between friends is a few quid a week, and the perfect way to slash your food miles while eating good food. So if you're self-catering at university why not try a doorstep delivery from one of the many veg box scheme providers?

Dieting 101

The Zone Diet
The Zone diet is a diet initially invented by Barry Sears in a number of books, publications and an associated web site. The Zone diet isn’t exactly a weight loss diet, although many zone diet followers believe that they actually lose body weight when following it.
The theory behind the Zone Diet is that if one were to control the levels of insulin and glucogen (two hormones produced naturally by your body), then anti-inflammatory chemicals are released which puts the body in a state of balance that is an awful lot more healthful than normal, which followers of the diet, refer to as '"he zone".
Sears believes that when your body is in this 'zone' it is perfectly balanced and, as a consequence, does not build up layers of fat.
The most important method of the diet is to control the precise ratio of carbohydrates to proteins, and to make sure your diet has increased amounts of Omega 3 and omega 6.
